sand and frogs
We were sad to see the Gallmans go home today after having enjoyed their company all weekend. Dennis napped hard after they left. I nearly did myself!
When he got up from his nap, we doused ourselves in Deep Woods Off and headed out to his personal playground. I uncovered his sandbox for him and he had a big time digging and playing. He drove his Jeep a dozen or so laps around the play yard and climbed up to slide down his slide or pole a couple of dozen times as well. He also figured out how to get himself onto his swing without falling out backward (a big improvement). But the most fun we had was when a frog jumped into the sandbox with him. We studied (harassed) him for a while before he jumped away. The lightning bugs gave us quite a show as well, but that's about when Dennis said something I never thought I'd hear: "I'm done playing out here now; I want to go back in the house". He also said "I need more bug spray--the bugs sure love to eat me".
Tonight he took a long bath and we read several stories. He is so ready to go to school tomorrow! David came in to kiss him goodnight and happened to have his knee brace in hand. Dennis was concerned--"what's that, Daddy, is your knee hurt? Does it have a big red boo-boo on it? Is it green? Is it really yucky?". He explained that his knee hurt on the inside, and that consoled Dennis enough to go on to bed, but I still hear him chattering away in there.
