eye appointment
Dennis had his eyes checked today and we were happy to discover that they are perfect. He woke up from the nap he was taking in the waiting room and found himself in a room with instruments he had never before seen and was understandably freaked out. But he was very interested in everything and quickly got over his initial whininess. At first, the doc asked him to put his chin in the rest and lean in, and she showed him the colored lights and asked him what colors they saw. He didn't do it at first, but later, after they dilated his eyes and we were alone in the exam room, he told David to sit in the chair and then moved the equipment in front of David and said "now, Dad, put your chin right here--wait, let me adjust it for you--and I will check your eyes. Do you see the blue light and the green light? Hey, how do I turn this thing on?". He figured out how to move the chair up and down and rode it like an amusement park ride. And then he gave me an 'exam'. When the doctor came back in, we'd already explained to him all about how the eye works because there was a nice model of one sitting out in the room (and because we are geeky biology majors with a heavy concentration in anatomy). He was a model patient after that, so cooperative that the doctor couldn't stop telling us how great he is. We're so proud. And we're so glad he can see!
