crane builder

Dennis came running to find me in the kitchen and announced "I built some beautiful cranes for you--come see them; I will show them to you!". As I watched, three cranes morphed into two and then into one giant one. I raved over them, naturally, before returning to the kitchen. A while later I heard screaming and went to see what was going on and found him detaching the detachable legs from his new Disney characters. He was making them scream as he was doing it. I walked up and he looked at me, all innocence, and said "look, their legs fell off!". He knew that I knew that they didn't just fall off, and we shared a big laugh.

Sometimes, when David isn't home, Dennis and I have screaming contests. He likes to scream every once in a while, and only I let him do it indoors. And I join in, because he laughs those giant belly laughs when I scream. He likes to sneak up on me and surprise me to elicit a scream. And we occasionally just scream for the heck of it, something I started up tonight, and he said "shhh...don't scream--Daddy's home!". I said he wasn't home yet, and Dennis must have looked at his mental watch because he asked "oh, is he okay?" and that's when I noticed that it was 9:20! He got home 15 minutes later or so. I didn't realize that Dennis made the connection that we only scream indoors for fun when Daddy isn't home. I am the sillier of his parents.
