gone hiking

It was breezy today and the thermometer informed us that the temps were in the high 70's. I had just put Dennis down for his nap and he had gotten quiet when I got the text message from Gran inviting us to go hiking at Oak Mountain. We were out of the house, gear packed, and at our meeting spot (Winn Dixie) just 30 minutes later. Dennis told us to be quiet in the van because he was going to finish his nap, but this only lasted 10 minutes before he announced "I'm all done with my nap now" (which means, of course, that he never got one).

We had a spectacular hike from the North Trailhead, taking the White Trail to Maggie's Glen and returning on the Yellow Trail. Dennis assumed many roles during our 2 hours in the woods. He was a ranger, a fire ranger, a trail guide, and a fireman. He was desperate to climb a tree so Gran put him up in one. He began yelling for a fireman to rescue him and get him down. He played Troll at the bridges we crossed, and he spotted a number of imaginary bears on the trail. The Yellow Trail from the glen rises very steeply very quickly, so much so that Dennis insisted he had to crawl up the hill. He talked nonstop for our entire hike (therefore he was the only 'wildlife' we saw), and we all had a wonderful time. He walked 3 miles and then happily endured some shopping on our way back home. He is completely exhausted and has been repeatedly yelling various ridiculous things. I imagine he will go right to sleep, or I at least hope that he will!
