sicko de mayo

Another Cinco de Mayo has passed without us celebrating at a Mexican restaurant--every year I think we will do this and every year we don't. I did have my own little celebratory party tonight as I was baking brownies for a church function--I dipped a few tortilla chips in the brownie batter and they were delicious!

I thought we'd hit the height of pitiful yesterday, but I was wrong. Dennis felt awful today, and every time I asked him a question (such as 'do you want something to drink?'), he'd burst into tears and begin wailing. He took a long nap, but it didn't help much. He was still miserable for the rest of the day. He did enjoy a brief visit with Uncle Denny which yielded the highlight of his day, a toy ice cream truck. When we got home, he was running around the house between crying spells and happily announcing "I am the Ice Cream Man and I drive the Ice Cream Truck--would you like some ice cream? Come and get it!".

Surely he'll feel better soon. We are watching this oil spill coverage with sinking hearts. I hate the thought of the environmental destruction that's happening, the animals that are being affected... And truthfully, I am excessively worried about my cruise ship not departing from Mobile on the 22nd as scheduled. There's nothing we can do to change the course of it, so we are hoping for the best.
