battleship fun!

We finally got on the road on our vacation at 1:00, and we headed straight for Mobile. It was after 4:00 when we arrived at the USS Alabama, so we decided to just walk around the park and look at the ship and planes and submarine and tanks without going inside either ship or sub. I think we were too late to buy tickets to get in anyway, but it was a beautiful day, sunny and breezy, and we enjoyed the walk. Dennis LOVED looking at the planes and the missile and sub and ship and tanks, and we even got to head out on a pier over the water. This particular pier was guarded by a pair of Canada geese and their five young offspring (goslings?), and the waddled way out of our path, hissing their displeasure.

After this, we headed to our hotel and then David, Dennis, Allison and I met up with an old friend from high school that we haven't seen in a decade or so (thank you Facebook!). Christine brought her husband and three children, and her younger two kids are four and five and Dennis was ecstatic to meet them! We all had a chaotic and fun dinner together before we headed back to our hotel and jumped in the pool. Dennis' routine was jump in, climb out, repeat, and Allison, Gigi, Gran, and I occasionally took turns jumping in with him. Our favorite was when he announced "I am Daddy Chick! And you are all my baby chicks." A few minutes later when we were talking to him, he said "don't call me Dennis--call me Daddy Chick" so we started peeping at him. He was thrilled!

It's so great to be on vacation!
