Two cute things to report from bedtime tonight--first, I asked him how he was feeling and he said "I am pretty fine, Mommy" and then asked me "are you sick, Mommy?". I told him my throat was a little funny but I felt just fine. He then burst out into fake 'hahahaha' laughter and I looked at him strangely. He said "I'm laughing at your throat, Mommy, it's funny!".
During our prayers, he recited the Lord's Prayer and the night-night prayer ('now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, Your love be with me through the night and wake me in the morning light'--a less scary version of the one I grew up with), and then he said he wanted to talk to Jesus in his room. He thanked the Lord for his family and other things, and then said "I need to tell you, Jesus, I snatched a toy at church and I'm sorry". I told him all he had to do was ask Jesus to forgive him, so he said "please forgive me for snatching that toy and help me to be a good boy" and David and I kissed him goodnight and left his room. After we closed the door, we stared at each other and asked "did he just confess a sin and ask forgiveness at age 3--WOW!". He constantly amazes us.
