sprinkler party

It has reached that time of year that afternoon outdoor time is only bearable if water is involved. Dennis LOVES his new sprinkler, and as a side benefit, so does Tabasco. Boy and dog (and I) had great fun running through the spray. The cat, of course, was totally above such nonsense. Afterward, we came in to towel off and tuck Dennis in for his nap. When I came in to check on him 15 minutes after saying goodnight, I saw that he had carefully placed a towel very precisely over his pillow. He said "my hair was getting some wetness on my pillow, so I put this towel on it--I'm always prepared like that." I just agreed with him.

Today he learned some basic archery from Gran. They shot suction-cup tipped arrows at (gasp!) the parked cars at the lake. They were our own parked cars, and we allowed this after we deduced that the $2 child's toy bow didn't have much oomph to it. He was beyond thrilled, and on the way home from the lake, he aimed and shot pretend arrows out his open window. I was concentrating on driving when he asked me a question that I missed. I asked "what, baby?" (which I NEVER say), and he said "you mean Pumpkin (I call him this fairly often)." This was funny to me because the last time I called him a pet name, he said (rolling his eyes), "Moommm--call me Dennis!". And once recently when I called him Dennis late at night, he said "call me Sweetie!". And sometimes he's Spiderman, Batman, Iron Man, or Optimus Prime.
