lightning bug fun

Can you imagine your kid doing something so Hallmark sweet that it's almost disgusting? Happened here tonight! We took his firefly lantern outside at dusk to see if we could successfully catch a few, and after a few mishaps, we got one into the lantern. Dennis wanted another one, he thought, and told me "I'll keep them forever!". I told him they wouldn't last forever and he immediately wanted to let the one in the lantern go free. I told him we'd set it free in the morning, and he seemed mollified by that, but he didn't want to catch any more. So as we were walking back to the house, he cradled his lantern to his chest and was murmuring to his new temporary pet bug. I slowed down and waited on him to catch up, and I heard him softly singing "This Little Light of Mine" to the firefly. How cute/sweet is that?????
