drive boat please

He was delighted that he got to go for a boat ride today. Allison came down to spend the day with us at the lake, first treating Dennis and me to a lovely meal at the Mexican restaurant. Dennis enjoyed his chicken soft taco along with most of my rice and beans. Amazingly enough, during the meal someone passed by our table holding balloons and Dennis pointed to the balloons and said "birthday" several times. Neither of us had said the word and we were amazed that he came up with it. We've watched no videos or read no books about balloons being connected with birthdays lately. We were very impressed! And we agreed that it was a birthday party and he said "birthday cake?". I assured him that he would be getting some of that in a week!

At the lake he chanted "drive boat" and "want drive boat" until we put his life jacket on him and took him down to the boat. It took a while to get it cranked and Dennis despaired of waiting and cried when it wouldn't start again and again. Bob came to our rescue and he and Gran got us started up and underway. Dennis walked around the boat for most of the ride (when he wasn't helping Gran drive) and had a wonderful time. I can't believe there was snow on the ground less than a week ago!!
