cheerful one

What a happy guy he was today. Gran and I had some work to do this afternoon and knew that Dennis might get bored, so we decided to take him to the playground and let him run off some energy before we headed to the lake. He played on the usual play structures and all of a sudden ran out of the fence. He had spotted a tractor with a front-end loader and was beyond excited about it. The worker there asked him if he wanted to see the tractor go and he got to watch as the tractor moved several loads of dirt. He shouted out directions in his loud happy voice. And he was ready to leave the park this time without tears or frustration. We put him in his car seat while he was still chattering on about tractors and as we drove away from the park, he waved and said "bye bye slide". He rewarded us for taking him to the park with a three hour afternoon nap in which time we were able to completely finish everything we needed to do. Perfect.

I don't know if I remembered to write about this. Several weeks ago, he was naming the little wooden people that came with one of his train sets. He named one Terry and another one Sunny. I picked up the one dressed like a construction worker (overalls, hardhat, handkerchief sweat band around his neck) and asked Dennis what his name was and he said, without hesitation, "Bubba". I have no idea where he even heard the name Bubba, and we couldn't help but chuckle at his appropriate-for-our-location choice.

The picture shows him driving with Gran, something he insisted on doing (and right after I snapped this with my phone he shut the car door in my face). He loves to 'drive'. It's hard to explain to him about needing to be fourteen years older to do so legally.
