As I walk through the house every day, I can't help but admire the flotsam left throughout, evidence that an active little person shares our residence. I sometimes find the mess a trifle overwhelming, but most of the time, coming across a random small shoe tossed off in haste just makes me smile and remember whatever it was that he was hurrying to do. He has marked this house (and the others he frequents) as his. And he has marked us as well, with kisses and hugs and desire for our attention and conversation. I revel in the chaos that is home--I absolutely delight in it! Each day brings another something wonderful, a new thing learned and shared, a new and poignant observation... Parenting is just incredible!

I especially loved the ghost stories he told tonight after it looked like a storm was coming--he insists on turning off the lights and shining a flashlight up from under his chin as he tells of scary things. Tonight the ghost was gobbled, swallowed without chewing, and pooped out by the people of the outlying caves. Another highlight: Dennis and Uncle Denny made like mad scientists and created some particularly gross red slime. The best part? They had to laugh like mad scientists do as they stirred their concoction. Dennis has one heck of a mad scientist laugh!
