All day long, all Dennis wanted to do was climb in my lap and read or have me read to him. This was fun but made it difficult to accomplish even the smallest household task. Everywhere I walked, I was followed by a short person holding up a book. I don't know what sparked his sudden interest in literature, but it was certainly timely. David had read to him all morning and then, just after naptime (when Gran and Pop were visiting and enjoying tea and cookies with us), the doorbell rang. It was the mail lady bringing a surprise package addressed to Dennis from his Aunt Kristin, and I cut it open and let Dennis unpack it himself. He was so excited to discover a box full of books from his cousins, and I know I read at least half of them to him this afternoon. He sat still through even the longest ones. And I'll admit, I enjoyed snuggling with him while I read to him.
I wonder if he'll be able to continue to enjoy longer stories. I'm excited about the possibility of being able to finish an entire Dr. Seuss book!
