while Mommy is away

Dennis spent the entire day yesterday with his Grandma and his cousin Emily while I've been playing in Florida and his Daddy was at work. I've gotten a very short summary of his activities, and I can tell you this: he played dress-up with Emily this morning. He found the dress up clothes and told her to dress as a princess for him. Then she dressed him as a princess as well. I would have loved to watch the two three-year-olds at play! His Grandma sent me a cell phone picture of him in his costume. He makes a pretty darn cute princess. She told me he only kept the outfit on long enough for the photo and took it off immediately afterward. When he told me about his day later on the phone, he didn't say anything about the princess stuff. He told me they played fireman and with the Barbie car.

This morning I heard about him being bad at swim class (as usual) and spitting water at the other children. He had a special lunch with his Grandma at his favorite Mexican place, and then he got upset when she wouldn't take him to Wal-Mart and buy him a toy. I assured her that he didn't really want a toy--he just wanted to delay his naptime. He knew he was tired, knew he was due for his nap, so he started making any excuse to stay away from any beds! He has started doing this to me a good bit lately--saying he doesn't want to go home and wants to go to Wal-Mart. He even said it to me when he was actually asleep in the car on the way home one night! I talked to him on the phone tonight and he told me he'd had so much fun playing with Emily. I miss the little guy and I'll be happy to see him tomorrow.
