feeling welcome

I enjoyed being home with Dennis today. It seems like his conversation skills improved exponentially while I was gone--he had so much to tell me about his weekend. He also sang me Twinkle Twinkle Little Star a few times, and he tried to negotiate with us about doing the things he wanted to do today. "Dennis it's time to take a nap" or "Dennis, you need to eat your lunch" we'd say, and he'd replay "okay, and THEN we can play fireman" or "and THEN we can go to Wal-Mart and look at the toys". He was very cuddly today, giving me lots of hugs. And he knew I didn't feel all that well (I have never taken the time to rest and get over this cold), so he took it easy on me and attempted to doctor me up. He brought in his stethoscope and applied it to my heart and said "do you hear your heart, Mommy?" and then he said "deep breaths, Mommy, deep breaths". He said "you need a shot now" and went off to find his toy syringe. He brought it back and said "be sad, Mommy" and so I made a sad face. Then he directed me "open your mouth" and stuck in the syringe and pushed the plunger (just like the way we are giving him his antibiotic right now). Then I smiled and he said "now you are happy--I am a good doctor!". It's good to be home!
