it almost happened

Yes, it almost happened, that thing I've been dreading about rearing a child, one of the reasons I've lost nearly 80 pounds--I almost had to climb up into the 'hamster tubes' at the indoor Chick-Fil-A playground to fetch Dennis. He didn't have the nerve to climb all the way up the stairs to the tubes at first, but an older girl gave him a hand. Then he spent 20 minutes up there running around and yelling. I could hear him bossing the other kids around: "come here now, sit in the airplane with Dennis" and "hey everybody let's play". I couldn't see him at all, just the bottoms of his little feet making shadows on the base of the tubes. I gave him a while and then began telling him to come down the slide but he wouldn't. He did stick his head out over the stairs and tell me to come up and play: "climb up the stairs Mommy, come drive the car, you can do it, Mommy". With a restaurant full of people watching, I didn't quite have the nerve to explore the tubes today. Eventually, he stuck his head back out over the staircase and announced "I all finished, Mommy" and he came down, thank goodness!
